Sarah's Candles
Sarah Rockford worked with artist and sculptor Gary Rosenthal to develop a unique community-based activity in which she will donate one-of-a-kind candlesticks and hand-rolled candles to Jewish communities in Ukraine.
In June, Sarah and her family and friends made a glass mosaic and sent it to The Gary Rosenthal Collection studio to be fused. In July, Sarah and her mother Renee will travel to the studio to help complete the works of art.
Half of the 60 candlestick sets will be sent to Denver, where Sarah lives, and the other half will be sent to the Ukrainian communities of Chernigov and Priluki, near where Sarah's grandfather David Bram, a holocaust survivor, was born in Poland. The candlesticks will arrive in time for Rosh Hashanah.
