Program Ideas

Mezuzot

  1. Make a glass or paper mezuzah with students and teach about the Sh'ma/V'Ahavta.
  2. Make a mezuzah for every classroom.
  3. Lead an activity in which each student makes one mezuzah for him/herself, and one for a child in another country.
  4. Take your class to a senior living facility for intergenerational mezuzah making.
  5. Seniors in high school can make mezuzot to take to college.
  6. A confirmation class can make one large mezuzah for a confirmation gift and individual mezuzot for each member of the class.
  7. Make mezuzot to give as donor gifts or honor awards.
  8. For a new building or addition, make a mezuzah for every doorway.
  9. Make mezuzot with a community and sell them at an auction as a fundraiser.

Dreidels

  1. Teach about Hanukkah and make paper or glass dreidel tops; after they are finished and returned, teach the dreidel song.
  2. Have a Hanukkah party with a dreidel-making activity.
  3. Give dreidels as small Hanukkah gifts.

Menorot

  1. Teach about Hanukkah and make glass or paper menorot.
  2. Seniors in high school can make menorot to take to college.
  3. Lead a charity activity and make extra menorot for congregations that lack ritual items.

Sabbath Candlesticks

  1. Hold a mother/daughter candlestick-making activity.
  2. Conclude a community-wide Shabbat dinner with a candlestick-making activity.

Spice Boxes

  1. After the Havdalah, hold a spice box-making activity.
  2. Give spice boxes as wedding or housewarming gifts.

Tzedukah Boxes

  1. Teach about charity and make paper or glass tzedukah boxes.
  2. Conclude a community service event with a tzedukah box activity.
  3. Make a large tzedukah box for your temple or organization in memory of someone special.
  4. Teach a lesson about Yom Kippur and the importance of tzedukah at a time of repentance.
